Pricing

A fixed price, agreed before any work starts.

Most custom-software shops won't talk about money until you've sat through a sales call. That's backwards. Here's exactly how pricing works at Dossey's Studio — so you can decide if it's worth a conversation before you have one.

How pricing works

Fixed price, written scope, no hourly meter

You get a plain-English description of what will be built, what it costs, and roughly how long it takes — before you commit to anything.

1

The first call is free

No charge, nothing to prepare, no obligation. We talk about the problem — what's slow, what breaks, what it's costing you — not about software yet.

2

You get a written scope and a fixed price

Before any building starts, you receive a plain-language scope: what it does, what it costs, and a timeline. The price is fixed to that scope, so there's no hourly meter running and no end-of-month surprise.

3

Changes are priced openly

If the scope changes mid-project — and real projects sometimes do — you get the cost of the change in writing before it happens. You're never billed for a surprise you didn't approve.

4

You own what you paid for

Your data, your code, your accounts. Ownership is written into the agreement — no proprietary lock-in, and leaving never means starting over.

What engagements look like

From a two-week fix to a full build

Work is scoped to the smallest thing that actually solves the problem. Most engagements fall into one of these shapes.

Focused automation

A single repetitive process removed — data entry, a recurring report, a handoff between two systems. Often a couple of weeks end to end, and frequently the right answer instead of a bigger build.

Custom application

A tool built around how your business actually works, for when an off-the-shelf product almost fits but the gap keeps costing you in workarounds and spreadsheets.

System integration

Your accounting, scheduling, POS, and spreadsheets connected so data moves on its own and nobody is paid to type the same information twice.

Every project is priced to its own written scope, so the exact number depends on what you need — but you'll always have that number, in plain English, before you decide to go ahead.

FAQ

Straight answers about money

Do you charge hourly or a fixed price?

Fixed price, against a written scope agreed before work starts. There's no hourly meter, so the number you approve is the number you pay for that scope.

What will my project cost?

It depends on the scope — but you'll get an exact fixed price in plain English before you commit, and the first call and written scope come at no cost or obligation.

What if I don't actually need custom software?

Then I'll tell you. Plenty of conversations end with a small automation, or a recommendation to use a tool you already have, instead of a build. I'd rather give you the honest answer than sell you the bigger one.

Do I own the code and my data?

Yes. Your data, your code, your accounts — ownership is written into the agreement, with no proprietary format holding your business hostage.

How long does a project take?

Anywhere from a two-week automation to a larger build. You get a rough timeline alongside the written scope, and work ships in usable pieces so you can react early.

Is the first conversation really free?

Yes — free, with nothing to prepare and no obligation. The goal is to understand the problem well enough to tell you whether it's worth solving.

Want a real number for your project?

Tell me what's slowing you down. You'll get an honest read on whether custom software is the answer — and if it is, a fixed price before you commit.
